Meal Appeal Procedure
Meal Plan Appeal Form
Your appeal must be submitted online via the link above. Your appeal must be based on or related to one of the following reasons:
- Serious financial need - you must substantiate this with documentation and explain it thoroughly in the comment block of the online appeal form
- Your classes conflict on more than one night with the meal plan schedule.
- You have a night job that conflicts with the meal plan hours (a letter must be provided from your supervisor on work letterhead, stating the EXACT hours you work).
- Medical reasons or special diet (all medical reasons must be verified or substantiated by our Student Health Center physicians).
- Other extenuating circumstance - Must be clearly defined in the comment block of the online appeal form.
Reasons that will not be accepted and cause immediate rejection of your appeal:
- I don't use the meal plan.
- I don't like the choices or the food in the cafeteria.
- I want to be able to eat with my friends and they do not have a meal plan.
- It is not convenient for me to go to the cafeteria.
- I didn't know that my meal plan was automatically renewed for the spring semester or I thought it was only for a semester.
When you signed your contract it is clearly stated that the meal plan is for the entire year. Here is a link to a sample blank contract (PDF format) identical to the document you signed. It clearly shows that in addition to your signature you also initialed in another part of the contract reaffirming that you understand this contract is for a year. You also initialed in the contract reaffirming that you understood that you could void your meal plan at the end of the fall semester by submitting a written request to the Campus Card Office (P.O. Box 9510, Miss State, MS 39759). It went on to notify you that failure to submit this request before December 31st would result in automatic renewal of the meal plan. Finally, the contract informed you that cancellations could be made before the first serving day in the spring semester, but would include a processing fee of $25.
If you have questions regarding your meal plan appeal contact Thomas Bourgeois, Associate Dean of Students at 662-325-3611 or thomasb@saffairs.msstate.edu to discuss further.
